Cebu voted best island in Asia

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

The Queen City of the South topped Condé Nast's "The Best Islands in the World: 2020 Readers' Choice Awards," followed by Sri Lanka in second place and Thailand in third.

The luxury and lifestyle magazine showcased Cebu's best tourist attractions, along with its rich history and culture.

Among these is the Kawasan Falls of the south, recommended for its world-class turquoise waters.

"Kawasan Falls, a swimming hole and series of three waterfalls near Cebu’s southwest coast, is popular with locals and tourists alike...” they cited.

On the other hand, Siargao Island was labeled as Philippine Bali.

“Given its smaller size (a population of 200,000, compared to Bali’s four million), Siargao has remained unspoiled, remote, and still relatively under the radar—despite the influx of development in recent years,” the magazine praised.

The Department of Tourism manifested its elation for the country's newest achievement amidst the tourism crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This latest citation from CNT gives us in the Department of Tourism (DOT) a boost of confidence, as we continuously carry out our strategies to gradually reopen domestic tourism, to once again welcome travelers from other countries when things become better,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.

Palawan, Siargao, and Boracay also made it to the top 10, occupying the fourth, fifth, and sixth place.
