Jericho Rosales, Kim Jones rescues typhoon victims using surfboards

Known for his surfboarding skills in the 2017 movie Siargao, actor Jericho Rosales with his wife, Kim Jones, surfed the tide of typhoon Ulysses to help neighbors who are stranded and trapped in their homes on the muddy waters of Marikina City.

According to Rosales, they usually experience flooding whenever typhoons arrive. However, boats and flotation devices are not available all the time.

“This morning paglabas namin, baha na. Usually kapag baha dito kasi, ganyan talaga. Laging ganyan ang problema. Sometimes walang boats or flotation devices so naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboard,” Rosales said.

Furthermore, rescue teams find it hard to save some of the stranded residents due to the intense flow of the floodwater and lack of boats.

“May mga iba lang na hindi na mapuntahan nung rescue teams kasi malakas na 'yung agos and wala pang boats,” the actor stated.

Sharing his thoughts, Rosales said to be composed and use the time to be better prepared for whatever is to come in the future, especially in disasters like this.

“Stay calm and siguro. It’s too late now to complain or anything so mas maganda kung tayo mismo in the future we can prepare. It’s always preparation para sa akin. Preparation ng mga nasa bahay and ng mga rescuers." Rosales shared.

"Of course, support the rescuers. I hope they get enough funds for rescue. We get better warnings sana for the people para hindi na mangyari." He added.

The 41-year-old actor rendered the same heroic gesture during 2009 when Typhoon Ondoy hit the country.
