Battle for the speakership: Velasco emerges victor, unseating Cayetano

During the proceedings held at the Batasang Pambansa's Plenary Hall on Tuesday, October 13, a total of 186 lawmakers affirmed Velasco's election for speakership - ending both Cayetano's term and doubts on his election's validity.

Lord Allan Velasco is a lawyer by profession. He is the son of the former Supreme Court Associate Justice and the incumbent Governor of Marinduque, Presbitero Jose Velasco, Jr. and current Mayor of the Torrijos town, Lorna Quinto Velasco.

He graduated from De la Salle University in a Bachelor of Science in Business Management before acquiring his law degree from the University of Santo Tomas.

Before embarking on the field of politics, he worked as administrator of the province under former Governor Jose Antonio Carrion and was President of Marinduque's Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

In his speech following his ratification, Velasco declares that under his leadership, the house will pass laws that are responsive to the needs of the Filipinos here and abroad, such as jobs, economy, healthcare, battle against hunger, peace, and sustainable energy.
